A crowded floor
A quartet plays
A gloved hand still awaits
A nervous wiggle
A glance betrays
A night without a date
A gasp in awe
A rose bouquet
A handful in her sight
A bashful giggle
A giveaway
A nod with pure delight
Colin Lee
Note: This is my debut submission to dVerse’s Quadrille #27: a 44-word poetic challenge containing the prompt “giggle”.

Colin! So happy you found us over at dVerse. I love the symbolism of your first blog poem being called A Debutante. 🙂
I can see this scene, vividly. The waiting…the glances. That giggle. Perfect. And I know from experience it is NOT easy to rhyme AND come out at exactly 44 words. You’ve rocked it.
There will be an inspiring new prompt over at dVerse today, at 3pm eastern standard time. Be sure to drop back in!

Thank you for the approval, De! Phew … A nod from the veterans! You know, I took the time to groom the entry as carefully and nervously as a debutante with her dress. Indeed this was a somewhat self-described symbolism about the excitement, anxiety and yearning to be understood and taken seriously as a new blogger. I’m so glad you understand it so well. Thank you!
I was not educated on poetry, and being an ESL my ears lack the calibration for metres and flows; so, in contrary to posing as challenges, rhyming actually helps keep me afloat. I haven’t yet ventured to unrhyme my poems — much as a sailor who knows not how to swim!

Welcome to dVerse… what a lovely start, so effectively you paint the scene of that bashful first meeting… Quadrille is our most popular prompt but we have prompts three days per week… Hope to see you around.

Right you are, Colin, many similarities. I missed this post because I was on hiatus in February. Glad you linked me – what a charming quadrille. I continue to admire your skill with the pen, my friend!
