Verse of a Sleepless Father

Tremors of midnight air, shadows
Of yesterday’s papers flying
Politics, murders, wars and sorrows –
Innocent children left dying
Dignity and lives, pennyworth as swallows,
My weary, sleepless soul’s sighing
Amidst the thumb-suckling music
Of the babe’s peaceful dream,
Wherein guardian angels never slumber –
Unlike life’s absurd, fits none but the lunatic
Tell me, angels, will the daybreak redeem
The bondage of my nightmare’s cumber?
